Albert Brooks stars as David Howard, an LA ad man frantically climbing the ladder to ever more money and status. Living a stereotypical middle-class life with his wife Linda, played by Julie Hagerty, David is obsessing on a promotion so he can buy a new Mercedes and get an even bigger house. When things don't go his way, he quits his job and bullies Linda into quitting her job as a number cruncher for a faceless corporation. He insists they must sell off everything, hit the road and be free.
Made at the very height of the Reagan years, "Lost In America," co-written by Albert Brooks and Monica Johnson, is seemingly forever relevant (and funny), being that America's economic and culture gaps are now bigger than the grand canyon and make the Reagan years (which started all our current mayhem) seem quaint.
