About the artist
Fernando Serrano is a multidisciplinary artist based in Bisbee, Arizona. Raised in Naco, Sonora, he found weaving through metalsmithing - he studied silversmithing at Instituto Allende in 2021, and in 2025 wove his first tapete there on master weaver Agapito’s loom. His work moves between wool and Mylar - the warmth of human labor held against the cold surfaces of borders and institutions. His work is held in the private collection of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. He is also the founder of Border Loomers, a free bilingual community weaving initiative. bord•er•line marks the culmination of his 2025-2026 Assembling Voices Fellowship at Columbia University’s Incite Institute.
Proceeds from each sale support Border Loomers’ free community weaving program and Central School Project’s mission to bring art to the Bisbee community.
