December 5, 2025
Gates open at 6:30pm Movie starts at 7:00pm
1976 American documentary film from director Les Blank
Central School Project and Camp Naco Alliance are partnered up to deliver this special movie night in our theater! Harrod Blank, Les Blank's son, also a filmmaker and truly a maker of magicand wonder in Douglas with his Art Car World, will be present and will lead a Q&A following the screening of this timeless beautiful movie that speaks to immigration, and celebrates food, music, resilience, and love of life.
"Drawing connections between music, cooking and daily life in Blank's signature fashion, the film is warm-hearted without ignoring the troubles immigrants have always endured." John Defore
"Despite the exuberance of the beat, Chulas Fronteras doesn't neglect the political side of life. Key to this film is the problem of crossing a line that, as Octavio Paz wrote, is not a border, but a scar." - Richard von Busack
A complex, insightful look at the Chicano experience as mirrored in the lives and music of the most acclaimed Norteño musicians of the Texas-Mexican border, including Los Alegres de Teran, Flaco Jimenez, and Lydia Mendoza.
PLUS a special screening of Harrod Blank's short documentary. 'Salvation Mountain'
A portrait of Leonard Knight and his visionary monument, Salvation Mountain. Painted with 18 coats of donated latex paint, Salvation Mountain, was created over many years, and shows how one man’s determination and faith can make for quite a majestic achievement.
